Chaoshan Civil Airport construction project approved

The National Development and Reform Commission dispatched on September 26th a document approving the establishment of the new Chaoshan Civil Airport. The planned airport will serve as a medium-size domestic airport with a flight area of 4E grade standard. The initial plan of the airport is a 4D grade standard that could satisfy the landing and takeoff of B767 aircrafts. The main construction will include a 2800-meters-long and 45-meters-wide runway, a terminal building occupying 50000 sq. m., and a 160000 sq. m. apron. The location of the airport will be at the cross area between Paotai Town and Denggang Town, both in Jiedong County, Jieyang City. The site is 20 kilometers or so apart from the downtown areas of three Chaoshan cities (Shantou, Chaozhou, and Jieyang). The airport service area will include the east Guangdong area occupying over 30000 square kilometers. The total project investment will reach RMB 3.764 billion, of which airport main construction is RMB 3.053 billion, the China Southern Airlines base project is RMB 431 million, the air traffic management project is RMB 205 million, and the fueling project is RMB 75 million. After completion of Chaoshan Airport in 2020, the existing Shantou Waisha Airport will cease its operation for civil aviation.
