China elected council member of ICAO

China was again elected as a first category council member state of ICAO on September 22nd during its 36th Session, held in Montreal, Canada. According to an official of the CAAC Representative Office in ICAO, 167 countries participated in the election. Aside from China, also elected as first category council member states were Germany, Italy, Japan, France, Australia, United States, Russia, Brazil, UK, and Canada. The meeting, inaugurated on September 18th, covered such topics as aviation safety and security, air travel, environment protection, air transport policy, and various aviation economy, medicine and law issues. The China delegation, headed by CAAC Vice Minister Yang Guoqing, attended the meeting. The ICAO assembly is held every three years. At present, it has 36 council member states of which 11 are first category council members.
